Temporarily "Sidelined"
I was hoping that this would happen a little later in the game, but I suppose if it had to happen its better it happened early right?
So a couple weeks ago I injured myself on the spinning bike at the gym while doing an indoor cycling workout in the late evening. For those of you who don't follow me on Facebook....here is the photo of the damage I did...
That was one day post injury...it was still pretty fresh, and boy did that sucker take a while to heal. The gash in my leg went about 1mm in depth and the total length of the injury was about 5 in (12.7 cm for those metric folk) so yeah it was pretty significant. The injury itself isn't what really bothered me... I am actually a pretty clutsy person. Those who know me well can actually vouch for this (yes its funny...har har har). How did the injury actually happen you ask? Well I usually wear "clip in" cycling shoes when cycling... or spinning for that matter, however I was in a rush to get out of the house and get a workout in that day and forgot to grab them on my way out of the house...so I used the shoes that were in my gymbag in the car (minimalist running shoes). Instead of taking the time to adjust the straps on the top of the pedals, I chose to "save time" and just adjust my footing as needed. Well my left foot slipped out of the pedal on an uphill "jump" set and yeah... scraped the front of my shin...in the middle of the gym...
So this is where I get rather irritated about the situation. I hurt myself yes... however who should approach me after I slip out of the pedal and gash my shin? Oh a "certified spin instructor"... She approaches me and rubs in my face the fact that she is a "Certified spin instructor" at the gym...and asks "if she can help me". So I am thinking to myself...ok great she is going to offer me a first aid kit to help with my now bleeding gashed shin. Nope. She proceeds to provide "advice" to me on how to properly insert my feet in the pedals and position myself on the spin bike because "you know proper form is important since you can REALLY injure yourself if you aren't careful"... no shit sherlock I am bleeding... After she shows me the proper form...she then OFFERS for me to join in on one of the "free spin classes they have for all gym members"...yeah I know where the class schedules are too...funny what I DON'T know is where the first aid kits are in the facility to aid in the commencement of my BLEEDING LEG.
So I get off the bike once she is done with her lecture. And I walk to the locker room... in search of a first aid kit. No dice. Two more gym workers see me in the locker room...say "Wow...ouch!" and don't offer a first aid kit. So I grab wet paper towels... and apply pressure. And leave. I have been back once since this incident. And that was to sign the paperwork to CANCEL my membership. I am still rather irritated. I couldn't swim until the scab healed over because I wanted to ensure this thing healed properly and didn't get infected.
So I have been running off and on, and doing my Nike Fitness Center App training sessions until last week when I got hit with a semi-truck of a migraine. Joy. Did I mention during this time that I seem to have aggravated an old shoulder injury from a car accident about 7 years ago. *facepalm* yeah... I seem to have lost my mojo...So I am offering a reward.
**LOST** One workout Mojo: Reward of recognition in this blog to the person who can find and return it to me ASAP. Please and thank you.
Although my shoulder is feeling better since last Thursday when it mysteriously flared up in the ouch factor. I will not be able to compete in this weekend's "Spring Fling Tri" at the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center... totally bummed. However I can still run... so I am taking up 2 10K events in May... one at work...and the Bolder Boulder with the incredible S.T.R. Shall be signing up for that today...it runs over Memorial day weekend in Boulder, CO...really looking forward to this, amazing scenery with a great friend, what more can you ask for. Oh...and please pray for no further injuries...sprained ankles, broken legs etc are not recommended for running events such as 10K's so yeah...happy thoughts please =D
